Community leader lambasts ‘hoods’ who terrorised family
Thursday, 4 February 2010
AN outspoken community leader has hit out at the 'hoods' who have been terrorising a family living on the fringes of Antrim's Springfarm estate.
The family awoke at 5am last Thursday morning (January 28) to discover that their home had been daubed with paint and their car splashed with paint stripper.
The repair bill has weighed in at around £15,000 - though Seamus Davis believes that will be dwarfed by the psychological impact on the young couple and their young children.
“This was an absolutely terrifying experience for this family - people who have done absolutely nothing to deserve it," said Mr Davis, a member of Antrim District Policing Partnership.
“Slogans like 'pervert' and 'get out' were painted on the walls, on the doors, even on the windows. The couple are mortified and mystified. They can't understand why this has happened to them."
Mr Davis added: "They have been at their wit's end since this happened and I would urge anyone with information to pass it to the police. This is your community. Don't let the hoods drag it down.
“There are people out there who think there's some honour in shielding or turning a blind eye to this criminal element. Well, I want to tell them they are wrong.
“You are not a tout for calling the police. You are doing your bit to protect the area you live in.
“If you do nothing, who is going to help you when something like this happens to your house?
“Vandalism is a cancer that can blight entire communities. If we all stand together we can cut it out before it spreads.
“These are innocent people whose lives have been turned upside down. I urge witnesses to do the right thing. Use the confidential telephone if you must, but do call the PSNI."
