YOU’RE FIRED! Who’ll be the big loser after this week’s election?
Thursday, 2 March 2017
MILES have been walked and doors have been knocked, but now it's time for the 13 South Antrim election hopefuls to finally face the electorate.
Thursday's election has a dash of added jeopardy with the reduction of seats from six to five. Like a game of musical chairs, South Antrim's current crop are nervously circling - and make no mistake, at least one of them will be dreading the moment the music stops.
To paraphrase Lord Sugar, come Friday at least one of South Antrim's well paid Assembly team will be fired.
And for many, that will be a truly terrifying prospect. Legacies are on the line, but so are jobs. For the MLA it is a humiliating fall from grace, but spare a thought for the office staff who are dragged down with them - collateral damage in an election that precious few of them wanted in the first place.
After all, these were seats they had fought and won just 10 months ago. South Antrim's gang of six could be forgiven for assuming they would have had a longer sit.
Instead they are back on the campaign trail. And this time the people are angry.
