Clinging to ropes during Sixmile drama, stricken kayaker shouted 'I'M GOING TO DIE' thumbnail

CLINGING to ropes, a kayaker was left fighting for her life after she smashed into a bridge near Antrim town centre on Saturday.
Hannah Birt almost drowned after she lost control of her canoe in the swollen Sixmilewater.
She was making her way downstream towards Lough Neagh when the racing torrent swept her off course and pinned her against a bridge arch.
“The boat flipped over and it just pinned my legs in the boat. My hips were taking the full force of water, I was pinned under the water so I went for the surface. I yelled 'I'm gonna die'," she said.
