A FORMER lifeguard has spoken of how he saved a man from drowning in a dramatic early morning river rescue.
Graham Vaughan (22), from Riverside, raced from his home through the centre of Antrim to the opposite bank of the Six Mile Water in just his shorts and a pair of trainers after his girlfriend raised the alarm.
“I just ran, I wasn't even thinking," he told the Antrim Guardian.
“The man was conscious, he was moaning and groaning, but I could not get any words out of him.
“I checked his eyes and he wasn't reacting. I was scared he was going into hypothermia, he was stone cold."
The Ambulance Service took the man to hospital where, it is believed, he has made a full recovery.
