AN elderly Randalstown farmer has been banned from keeping dogs for life after he pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to two German Shepherds, which were locked in a trailer with their own faeces for over a year.
George Hugh Richardson (75) also admitted failing to take reasonable steps to ensure the needs of the dogs were met.
These failings included a lack of a suitable diet, a suitable environment and the need to be protected from pain, suffering, injury and diseases.
One of the dogs had to be euthanised on veterinary advice.
