Antrim reps miss out in bid to be Mayor for third year in a row thumbnail

COUNCILLORS from the former Antrim Borough were forced to watch on forlornly from the sidelines as the top position on the new 'Super Council' yet again went to a representative from Newtownabbey.
DUP rep Paul Hamill is the latest councillor from the Macedon ward to be appointed Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, following in the footsteps of party colleague Thomas Hogg and the UUP's John Scott.
The Deputy Mayor this year is Ballyclare UUP councillor Vera McWilliam, which means that representatives from the former Newtownabbey Borough have held five of the six top positions since the formation of the new Council.
