Antrim Hospital to get new 3.5m MRI scanner thumbnail

ANTRIM Area Hospital is to receive a second MRI scanner, thanks to a 3.5 million funding boost from the Department of Health.
The investment was confirmed after approval for the full business case was granted by the Northern Trust Board in May.
The contractor has been appointed and is on site, but the new scanner will not be fully commissioned and operational until July next year.
In 2016 a new replacement scanner was installed at the hospital.
The provision of a second scanner will provide an opportunity to enhance the range and volume of scans available.
It has also been announced that a further investment of 300,000 will be spent on the refurbishment of the eight-bed Critical Care Unit.
