Step aboard the gravy train: politicians pocket £1.5m in just 12 months

LOCAL MLAs and councillors have pocketed a whopping £1.5 million in salaries, expenses and allowances in just 12 months, it can be revealed this week.
Figures obtained by the Antrim Guardian show that Antrim and Newtownabbey councillors' allowances came to £666,000 while South Antrim's MLA's pocketed over £710,000 - despite Stormont collapsing in February!
As well as salaries, political reps were paid for mileage, office furniture and mobile phone costs - amongst other claims.
