Borough takes no chances with ‘Hurricane Ophelia’ thumbnail

SCHOOLS, shops, forests and even Antrim Castle Gardens were shut down on Monday as 'Hurricane Ophelia' loomed over the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough.
Scores of flights were also cancelled at Belfast International Airport and the shutters were pulled down on council facilities.
The Met Office issued a series of weather warnings for strong winds for Monday and Tuesday, including an amber wind warning for Northern Ireland as the storm breezed through.
Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council closed its offices at noon on Monday and a Planning Committee meeting scheduled for Monday evening was also cancelled.
