Allen now ranked sixth in World thumbnail

ANTRIM snooker ace Mark Allen came tantalisingly close to winning the International Championship in China last weekend.
The 31-year-old had a rollercoaster tournament admitting that he put in some 'extremely below par performances' in the early rounds - but things changed in the semi-finals when he met Yan Bingtao, who had thrashed five-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, as well as claiming the scalps of John Higgins and Ricky Walden.
Looking at the form book, it should have been a bridge too far for Allen - but he gleefully ripped up the script with an emphatic 9-2 win to take his spot against world number one Mark Selby in the final.
However, it was not to be and it was Selby who claimed the 150,000 top prize.
Allen had to settle for the runner-up prize, but there was still the small matter of the 75,000 cheque!
It also meant Allen creeping up the world rankings from 11 to six - equalling his career best.
