ANTRIM and Newtownabbey Council could be jeopardising the long-term future of Antrim Castle Gardens by treating it as an asset to be exploited, rather than a historic treasure to be preserved.
A decade ago, over 6 million was spent on restoring the grounds to their former glory and the result was a host of awards. But along with the plaudits came thousands of visitors.
However, conservationists are now becoming uneasy.
Is Antrim Castle Gardens becoming a victim of its own success - and could the painstaking steps to  restore its unique features ultimately sow the seeds of its destruction?
And is the council actively acquiescing in that process by treating it as a cash cow to be milked instead of a historic landscape to be sustained for future generations?
