Pegasus sent crashing down to earth by rampant Randalstown

No Seconds chances: Randalstown have romped to the semi-final of the McConnell Shield after a famous victory against old rivals Pegasus.
Randalstown Seconds 6
Pegasus Seconds 1
RANDALSTOWN Seconds continued their dominance over their fierce rivals Pegasus Seconds with this clinical performance, resulting in a 6 -1 win last Wednesday night at Mossley.
Sweeter still, the emphatic win now sees them enter the McConnell Shield semi-final this Saturday against Armagh Seconds.
Nobody present could remember a Randalstown side defeating a Pegasus team at this level so convincingly ever before and but for the brilliance of the Pegasus goalkeeper it really could have been much more.
The brand of high tempo passing and movement on and off the ball - mixed, of course, with a healthy dose of steely defensive resolve - was never better shown than in this performance.
Louise Mellor opened the scoring in the eighth minute when from the initial penalty corner award she advanced to the back post to steer home Courtney Burns' thunderous drive.
Pegasus managed to level in the 18th minute when a hard driven cross into the circle was not cleared and an unmarked forward squeezed the ball past Jenna Holmes to level matters.
This was the 'wake up' call Randalstown undoubtedly required and from that point on they dominated proceedings.
The pace of CJ McDonald and Rachel Young on the right flank allied with the quality of Mellor, Louise Creighton and Lynsey Black powered them forward.
The emerging right half Courtney Burns played a huge role in the match as her constant attacking presence on the right flank helped push Pegasus further back into defence.
Mellor restored Randalstown's lead in the 23rd minute with a carbon copy of her initial effort when she steered the ball into the net at the post after Emma Clarke's shot deflected off the keeper.
