Council casts its net for fishing season

Thursday, 15 July 2010

ANTRIM Information Centre has offered to take the strain to help locals hooked on fishing.
Denise Lynn, Customer Services Advisor with Antrim Borough Council, said they hoped to offer some timely advice for people keen to while away a summer afternoon by the riverbank.
“The fishing season is now in full swing with fish including salmon, bream, perch and pike, among other favourites, to be found. It's the perfect summer pastime and one that all the family can enjoy," she said.
“However, did you know that, in the Borough of Antrim, you can't just buy a rod and go along to your local river to fish? You must have a rod licence and permits to fish particular stretches of water.
“Sounds confusing - but that's where we come in.
“If you need help with fishing licences and permits, just call in and see us in the Old Courthouse, Market Square, Antrim. We are on hand to guide you through what is required for each of the areas where you can fish.
“We can also provide an extensive range of fishing licences for all ages, along with local fishing permits for rivers including the Sixmilewater.
“So, before you gather up your gear and head to the riverbank, call into Antrim Information Centre and take advantage of the wealth of knowledge on hand."
For further information contact Denise Lynn, Antrim Information Centre at the Old Courthouse (tel: 9442 8331).
