ANTRIM Rugby Club could be on the verge of an exciting future with a new sponsor on board and the appointment of the experienced Colin Alexander at the coach for the 2010-11 season. After a long, hard year of limited progress, a youthful and enthusiastic Antrim team gathered and came up with a list of target objectives for the forthcoming campaign.
With the current sponsorship deal due to end, the priorities were to secure a new sponsor and to try establish a new coach for what would be Antrim's fourth season since their brief absence from the league.
Within a short space of time, Antrim were delighted to welcome on board Spice Templepatrick as the club's main sponsor. The local Indian restaurant, located on the Ballyrobin Road, will become the shirt sponsor on a complete new set of playing jerseys for the First XV.
A players' vote, resulted in Player of the Year 2009-2010, Andrew Cameron, being appointed captain for the season with Neil Manson as his deputy.
Antrim then approached renowned loca rugby coach Alexander who enjoyed has a successful history at the club, and after attending a players' meeting Colin accepted the challenge and agreed to become their 'Director of Rugby'.
Encouraged by the players' collective enthusiasm and self belief, Colin said that it had been the first time, in a very long time, that he had seen an Antrim team show such hunger and enthusiasm.
“If we can transfer this on to the playing field; we can collectively achieve something much, much bigger," he said.
