TIR na nog GAC travelled to Ahoghill to put in a heroic performance against Armoy in the intermediate hurling championship.
Armoy were two points up by the fifth minute but the Randalstown side replied with points from Conor McGill in the eighth minute and Michael McGill in the tenth.
The confident Armoy side replied by scoring again in the 22nd minute and netting their first goal just one minute later.
Tir na nog goalkeeper Rudi Graham pulled off a great save but the Armoy corner forward was on hand to smash the ball into the net.
Tir na nog sent on Brendan Kerr into the half back line in an attempt to steady the ship.
Armoy continued to attack but great defending from Colm Duffin and Dominic Mooney kept out certain scores.
However, despite Tir na nog's best efforts, the score read 0-05 to 1-06 at half time. Less than a minute into the second half Armoy went five points up.
Tir na nog hit back with a goal in the 33rd minute after the referee awarded a free 35 metres out, Michael McGill driving the ball into the net.
Four points down by the 40th minute, Tir na nog sent on Kevin Kerr and His impact was immediate as he caught the puck out and passed the ball to Cathal Heatley who scored a fine point from 50 metres. Tir na nog then really upped the tempo scoring points without reply to go two points into the lead.
However, Armoy weren't finished yet and, in a rare attack, put a high ball into the square which was caught by the full forward and shot into the roof of the net.
The game moved into injury time and the drama continued as Tir na nog's Michael Gormley won the Armoy puck out, only to be reprimanded by the referee for over-carrying the ball. In the last puck of the game the Armoy free taker, who had not missed a free all night, put the ball wide much to the delight of the Tir na nog fans.
As the final whistle blew the score stood Tir na nog 1-15 Armoy 2-11.
The best performers for Tir na nog were Colm Duffin, Eamonn Heffron and Brendan Kerr in defence and Christy Sherrin, Kevin Kerr and Michael McGill in attack.]
