TWO local wheelchair tennis players have been crowned champions at the recent Irish Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships held in Dublin.
Ivor Jess from Crumlin and Doagh's Stafford Lynn joined top players from across Great Britain and Ireland, at the David Loyds Centre, Clonskeagh in pursuit of silverware.
The two 'Spokes in Motion Club' players were teamed up for the main draw doubles and after some fine displays of wheelchair tennis they battled their way through to the final without dropping a set.
In the final the local duo faced Dublin's Mark Barry and Alex Krol of Liverpool, and though proving to be a hard fought match, Jess and Lynn eventually came through to win in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
Although Jess is mainly a doubles competitor he also had a successful run in the main draw singles narrowly finishing runner-up in the final.
Both players expressed their delight with their success in Dublin.
Jess said: "The intense competition in the Irish Open will hold us in good steadfast for our own forthcoming tournament 'The Belfast City Council International', which takes place in the Belfast Indoor Tennis Centre between September 19-21."
