UUP hot shots take aim at Castle Upton thumbnailNovice clay pigeon shooter Darren Ross gets some expert advice and guidance from Paul Michael during the Ulster Unionist Party Clay Pigeon Shoot which was held in the grounds of Castle Upton, Templepatrick, on Saturday.

Hosted by Antrim councillor Danny Kinahan, whose family also provided the first place trophy of a silver rose bowl, the event was organised by Northern Ireland clay pigeon shooter and UUP representative, Paul Michael, and UUP fundraising officer, Elma McConkey.
With 63 entrants, and with blue skies taking the place of the predicted rain showers, the event was hailed as a 'fantastic success' by Mr Michael.
“There was a brilliant turnout," he said. "The weather was fantastic and in addition to the competition I gave some coaching lessons. There was a barbeque and everybody had a great time."
Mr Michael, who has represented Northern Ireland for six years, was not competing in the competition which was won by Kenny Thomas from Ballydougan in Co Down with 27 out of 30. Second place went to local man, Ernie Kirkpatrick with 24.
“We had competitors from all over the province," said Mr Michael. "From Ballymoney to Bangor, and throughout Co Down."
Although no local councillors came away with any silverware, Mr Michael said the Danny Kinahan had showed promise. With the event now an annual occasion, there will be stiff competition for next year's prizes.
