Antrim humiliated as Cookstown sizzle

Thursday, 28 February 2013

Cookstown 14 Antrim 1
Antrim fell to one of their heaviest ever defeats when they were completely overwhelmed by a ten goal second half rampant performance from a superb Cookstown team at Coolnafranky last Wednesday evening.
Incredibly it was Antrim who took the lead halfway through the first half when Lloyd Kane was on hand to finish off a well worked move.
However within a minute Cookstown was level when a strong drive across the circle was deflected into his own net by an unlucky Antrim defender.
Cookstown's Greg Allen then scored a quick fire hat trick of penalty corner goals to give his team the rather flattering 4-1 lead at half time.
Unfortunately for Antrim, Stuart McIlroy was injured late in the first half and he played no further part in the game.
Sadly, as has happened in a few matches this season, the Antrim team completely lost their discipline as the second half progressed and the homesters took full advantage to score ten more goals as they over ran the hapless visitors.
Andy Barbour scored twice, Stephen Sloan found the net four times and Allen added another to bring his tally to four.
Keith Black scored from the penalty spot after Simon Todd had been upended by the overworked keeper Andy Heatley.
Paul Thompson and Ryan Miller got into the goal scoring act to finish the scoring at fourteen.
Antrim did have a few sporadic raids, goalkeeper Hughes making a good stick save on a one to one with David McClintock and Andrew McWhirter making a last ditch tackle when Rory Brown was just about to shoot.
This Saturday Antrim travel to Shaw's Bridge to play Instonians in what will be another tough league match.
Antrim: A Heatley, A Mullan, N McCullough, M Smyth, J McMeekin, D Mailey, S McIlroy, A Murtland, A Reilly, D McClintock, R McClintock, L Kane, R Brown and D Wilson.
