Gerard takes home bronze from London thumbnail

AN Antrim karate student has taken another step towards his goal of adding to his World Championship medal tally.
Gerard McLean, who is training for the championships in Belgrade this June, attended the English Wado-kai Open in London where, along with two team mates from Dromore, he competed in both disciplines of Kata (form) and Kumite (fighting).
All three won a bronze medal in their Kata; something Gerard has been working hard on in recent months. He was only beaten by the overall winner who performed a senior dan grade (black belt) kata.
A club spokesman said: "Unfortunately when it came to the fighting, the boys were not victorious but that does not mean that they were beaten easily - far from it!"
