AN ANTRIM GAA goalkeeper has been hailed 'a true hero' after not letting go of the match ball despite suffering an agonisingly painful broken arm.
Paul Burns was playing for St Comgall's senior team against Ardoyne at the weekend when he was involved in a sickening - but completely accidental - collision with one of the opposition forwards.
An eyewitness said: "It was a 50-50 ball and both players went for it.
“There was a collision, a total accident, and Paul suffered a bad break to his arm above the elbow after he came back down to earth with a bump."
The spectator added: "Despite the injury he hung on to the ball - he's a real champ.
“Nobody was to blame, it's just one of those things."
The match was abandoned after the accident, but sadly both teams suffered the further horror of relegation to Division Three because of other results on the day.
