THE SDLP are expected to move quickly to limit the damage from the Brian Duffin sex scandal by injecting some much-needed new blood into council.
The veteran SDLP rep left politics in disgrace this week after the Appeal Court upheld a sex assault charge against him.
The 74-year-old may have been a member since the birth of the party, but that counted for nothing as seedy details emerged of his predatory encounter with a 17-year-old girl in 2016.
Vowing to clear his name, Mr Duffin quit the SDLP and sat as an Independent after his initial conviction - ignoring calls for him to resign altogether and return the seat the party saw as theirs.
That act of defiance back-fired spectacularly this week when the conviction was endorsed by the Appeal Court.
