Northern Trust under fire after Antrim woman's letter from beyond the grave

SINN Féin South Antrim MLA, Declan Kearney has spoken out on the conduct of the Northern Trust in the case of Antrim woman, Rachel McAlpine.

Rachel McAlpine passed away last month following a prolonged illness during which she challenged the standard of care provided by the Trust through private company Trackars.

Rachel left instructions for her case to be made public following her death, in the hope that others in circumstances similar to hers would benefit from a change in care provision.

She left a letter with her solicitor, accusing her local health trust of letting her down.

During a seven-year battle with a debilitating illness, she claimed her condition deteriorated significantly after the Northern Health and Social Care Trust outsourced her care to a private company which she said failed to fully appreciate the level of treatment she required.

She said: “If you can learn one thing from my life, it's never bow down'

“Unfortunately this fight has pushed me to an early grave,”
