Pressure continues to mount on beleaguered Muckamore Abbey

FRESH questions are being asked about the long-term viability of Muckamore Abbey Hospital after it emerged that almost half of the 80 patients were there ‘unnecessarily’.

Margaret Kelly, the Director of Mencap NI, confirmed that as many as 38 people were being ‘deprived of their liberty’.

She added that lack of funding could no longer be used as an excuse.

“We are just shocked and horrified at this figure,” said Ms Kelly.
