WEEKS after terminating his 29-year relationship with the Ulster Unionist Party, former MLA Adrian Watson has officially confirmed that he will run as an Independent in May’s elections.
Last month Mr Watson finally walked on what he called ‘the saddest day of my political career’.
The breaking point came in the wake of a meeting convened to resolve the fallout from a shambolic selection meeting last April that saw three former Mayors dumped in favour of candidates who had never won a vote between them.
Two of them, 2014 poll-topper Roderick Swann and veteran campaigner Mervyn Rea were eventually reinstated - but Adrian Watson, who has held his Antrim Town seat since 1997, was not.
