Residents' salt box call is rejected - because they don't live on a hill

However they were shocked to be told that their application was unsuccessful because their street did not have a sharp enough gradient.

Members of Killead Development Group have been calling for elected representatives to help them for several years, after a previous salt box was stolen.

The vast majority of people living in Grove View are senior citizens, and several have fallen on ice, with one man having to be hospitalised with broken ribs.

Many older residents of the small estate have told the Antrim Guardian that they have been forced to walk on the roads during icy weather in a bid to stay safe.
