LAST Thursday, Robert Flowerday should have been celebrating his 66th birthday with family and friends.
Instead, his loved ones were planting a tree and dedicating a park bench in his memory at Crumlin Leisure Centre.
The family had hand-delivered leaflets around the town and posted on social media, inviting the whole community to attend the ceremony - and a huge crowd turned out in rainy conditions, first gathering in a hall before filing outside to listen to speeches.
At first, the rain fell and sharp gusts of wind caught umbrellas as the crowd strained to hear the speakers.
But as people shared their fond memories of Robert Flowerday, the clouds parted and the sun broke out.
Many could scarcely believe that little over a year ago, such a quiet, kind and gentle person could have been taken from them in such a brutal manner.
