Flowerday 'murder' accused to stand trial

THE Glenavy man accused of the horrific murder of retired Antrim Grammar School teacher Robert Flowerday has a ‘case to answer’ and will stand trial, Antrim Magistrate’s Court has heard.

At court this week, as part of the second part of a mixed committal hearing, District Judge Nigel Broderick read the 39-page deposition from a witness, who appeared via videolink from another part of the court, before it was signed off and admitted as evidence.

Michael Owens (34), who appeared in the dock after being brought from HMP Maghaberry - where he has been in custody for over a year - listened impassively as the charges were then put to him once again.
