IT’S remarkable for any family to celebrate one of their members turning 100 - but one Randalstown clan have been doubly blessed as a much-loved wife, mother and grandmother marked her centenary last week.
Nellie Graham followed in the footsteps of her husband Joe, who celebrated his 100th birthday last year.
Quiet and unassuming, Nellie told the Antrim Guardian it was a ‘lot of fuss over nothing’ as she welcomed the great and good to the Neillsbrook bungalow where she and Joe still live.
And after a family party in the Dunsilly Hotel the previous Sunday, Nellie was content to have a more subdued affair at home last Thursday.
Her devoted family - of which there are three children, 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren - turned out in force to celebrate with her and their beloved ‘Granda Joe’.
With both of them having their centenaries firmly under their belts - and approaching their 77th wedding anniversary - they are arguably the oldest couple in the province.
And, thoroughly impressed with this achievement, DUP leader, Arlene Foster took a break from patrolling the polls to drop in.
