ANTRIM and Newtownabbey are fast-tracking plans to confer their highest honour on the world-beating king of speed, Jonathan Rea.
Mayor Paul Michael is the latest to congratulate the local man after he made history by becoming the first ever rider to win four successive World Superbike titles - despite admitting this week that he does not have a licence to ride his bike on public roads!
Speaking this week, the UUP man said that Rea was ‘a fine ambassador’ for both the sport and the Borough.
“The Council is currently working with Jonathan to award him with the Freedom of the Borough,” he revealed.
“This is the highest award that Council can bestow and is only awarded to local people who have rendered eminent services to the Borough.
“The event will also celebrate his outstanding achievements in motorcycle racing.”
