A LOCAL schoolgirl has proved yet again that she is a true force to be reckoned worth in the ring.
Nicole Clyde is already one of Antrim Boxing Club’s most decorated young fighters - and she had added to her impressive haul.
She recently travelled to Dublin to take part in the Esker Box Cup.
This is a multi-nation, female only championship and it is the largest event of its kind in Europe.
Unsurprisingly, then, it also attracts all the big names!
But Nicole was undaunted and the hard work she has put in the gym shone through.
Coach Eamon Gillen said he was ‘immensely proud’ of what the sporting ambassador achieved in the ring against top class opposition.
“Nicole had put a lot of work in over recent months to prepare herself for this championship and it all paid off,” he said.
“She beat two really tough opponents during the competition.
“She stopped her first opponent, a finalist in this years All Ireland championships, in the second round with a technical knock out in the semi-final.
“She then took on a tough English champion in the final, but Nicole was just too good for her.
“She went on to claim gold and another title to add to her collection.
“Nicole is a fantastic talent. She has done herself and Antrim proud yet again.”
SDLP Councillor Roisin Lynch dropped in this week to personally congratulate Nicole on ‘a magnificent achievement’.
