THE Antrim Taekwondo Club recently returned with an impressive haul of 10 medals from Northern Ireland Taekwondo’s annual Open competition in Banbridge Leisure Centre.
There was a superb turnout for the event with competitors and spectators from all parts of the UK and Ireland.
Antrim TKD Club was represented by 12 students who participated in the Patterns and Sparring events.
For some of them this was their first ever Taekwondo competition.
The Antrim competitors won two gold, four silver and four bronze medals.
Lloyd Neeson Antrim Instructor said: "All the students who attended and took part in the competition did themselves and Antrim TKD proud.
“It was a fantastic achievement by the Antrim students.”
He added: “A special mention should go to 14-year-old Dylan Downey who won gold in the Junior Black Belt Sparring Heavyweight Division to earn the title ‘Northern Ireland TKD Open Champion’.”
Dylan also won gold in the Tag Team Sparring event.
A number of Antrim Taekwondo Club members also took part earlier this month in the British TKD Open Championships in the Birmingham Arena, as part of the Northern Ireland team.
