On the crest of a wave

A MUCKAMORE man has become only the second person from Northern Ireland to win a prestigious wind surfing championship.

Rob Mulholland scooped the win at the Irish Windsurfing Association Slalom Series 2018.

Only two races throughout the series had enough wind for ranked racing and while he was initially sitting second, he jumped into first place when the Judges added up the scores.

While he was a ‘latecomer’ to the sport at the age of 29, Rob has well and truly proven that he’s got what it takes, as over the last two decades he has come into his own.

Over the two ranked events at Downings in Donegal and Kinvera in Galway, Rob pushed himself to the limit, using his skill and experience to race into the lead.

“I was in second place overall but then they take away your worst results and after the discards, I moved up into first,” Rob explained.
