SINN Féin’s Declan Kearney hosted a visit to Crumlin United FC by Laurence Simms and Martina Healy from the Department of Foreign Affairs to hear from Club management about their achievements and plans for the future.

Speaking after the visit, the South Antrim MLA said: “I was very pleased to host Laurence Simms, Joint Secretary of the British-Irish Secretariat and his colleague Martina Healy on a visit to Crumlin United FC.

“Crumlin United FC, is a thriving soccer club at the heart of the wider Crumlin community, and an outstanding example of sporting excellence and community leadership.

“During their visit, the Department of Foreign Affairs representatives received a comprehensive presentation from members of the Club’s management committee, outlining their commitment to working in partnership with the wider community.

“Referencing the significant growth in the population of Crumlin village over the last number of years, and the notable deficits in local services, the Club’s management highlighted current plans to build a new community hub on site which could allow for expansion of existing amenities such as the local health centre.

“Club members also outlined plans to extend and repurpose the current 3G pitch.

“I am grateful to the Department of Foreign Affairs officials for their visit to learn about the Club’s development over the years and exciting plans for the future.

“I am really proud to be associated with its work and look forward to continued success for Crumlin United.”
