YOUNGSTERS from Antrim Rovers teamed up with the local branch of McDonald’s to clear litter recently - and together they had a ball!
It was part of the ‘30 Parks in 30 Days’ initiaitive, which sets out to remove rubbish from parks, paths and roadsides.
The Antrim branch of McDonald’s were ‘more than happy’ to get involved and they enlisted support from Rovers, who they sponsor.
And Branch Manager Jake Ervine said they were ‘overwhelmed’ by the response.
“I contacted Rovers and they were fantastic. Around 40 eager volunteers said they were ready and willing to help,” said the Antrim man.
“The Council helped with bibs and the litter pickers were supplied by Chris Flynn, the centre manager at The Junction.”
And then they set to work in and around Rea’s Wood and the Castle Gardens.
Together they filled eight bags of unsightly rubbish - as well as an old bike!
After all the hard work the tireless team of volunteers were invited back to McDonald’s in Antrim for a special treat - yes, it was well-earned meals and McFlurries all round!
