THE Antrim Town Girls’ End of Summer Tournament took place on Sunday (August 31) at Chimney Corner FC.
The side hosted over 220 girls from teams from the surrounding areas and welcomed local suppliers providing burgers and hotdogs, coffee and tea, inflatable fun, ice cream refreshments and more.
Special guests included Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Leah Kirkpatrick, Deputy Mayor Julie Gilmour and South Antrim MP Robin Swann, as well as Glentoran and Northern Ireland star Kascie Weir, who was coached by Donna Rudd of Antrim Town Women and Girls FC.
Thanks were extended to funders Clanmill and Radius Housing, and to Impact Network NI for their support.
Hosts Chimney Corner FC and Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council have also been thanked.
Club charity Little Heroes NI was on site providing information on their services.
All visiting teams made a donation to the charity, which is currently supporting an Antrim Town Girls player.
Young Phoebe Carmichael had an accident in January 2023 and was treated at Royal Belfast for Sick Children.
The care and support her family have received as a family from the staff in the Children’s Hospital has been described as ‘nothing but amazing’, especially the ongoing care she receives.
Her family said they will be ‘forever grateful for all they have done and continue to do’.
They said: “We’re fundraising for the Burns Unit, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support of Phoebe’s football team, Antrim Town Woman and Girls FC.
“Their help has been crucial to Phoebe's recovery, and we’re so thankful they've chosen Little Heroes as their charity.
“By supporting Little Heroes, you will be helping to purchase vital new equipment to diagnose and treat the hospital’s young patients, to provide facilities and services for families to fund research into children’s illnesses whilst championing our ‘Big Heroes’ - the dedicated paediatric healthcare professionals at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.”
