THE Antrim and Newtownabbey Primary Schools’ Football Association League has officially kicked off once again, building on the momentum of a highly successful inaugural year.

Now in its second season, the league has expanded significantly, creating even more opportunities for young people across the borough to take part in competitive sport.

This year sees an impressive 27 schools competing in the boys’ league and 19 schools participating in the girls’ league - a clear sign of the growing appetite for football at primary school level.

Fixtures are held on a monthly basis at the excellent 3G facilities at Allen Park, providing a high-quality playing surface that ensures matches can go ahead in all weather conditions.

The monthly format allows schools to balance participation with other commitments while still enjoying regular competitive action throughout the academic year.

Organisers, including Antrim Primary School P7 teacher Mr Mairs, have extended special thanks to the Good Relations team within Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council for helping to secure funding for the 3G pitches at Allen Park, which have been central to the league’s growth and success.

Appreciation has also been expressed to Ballymena Causeway Credit Union for their generous sponsorship. Their support has helped provide essential equipment and fund the purchase of a new kit for the district team, ensuring young players can represent their area with pride.

A further special thanks goes to Steven Neeson for his continued support in photographing the events.

His dedication in capturing the action and memorable moments has helped showcase the spirit, teamwork and enjoyment that the league brings to children across the borough.

With participation numbers rising and strong community backing, the future looks bright for primary school football in Antrim and Newtownabbey. Organisers hope the continued expansion of both the boys’ and girls’ leagues will inspire even more children to get involved in the years ahead.
