THE Chimney Corner and Chimney Corner Development matches were postponed on Saturday, as the club paid their respects to one of their own, club legend Jimmy Getty.
Jimmy played left back at Corner, and was part of the squad that won the Steel and Sons Cup in 1973, beating Glentoran Seconds in the final.
As Chimney Corner stated in on their Facebook page, Jimmy was a stalwart both on and off the pitch.
“After a distinguished playing career at the club, Jimmy also served as a longstanding committee member, and of course travelled the province as a supporter,” said a spokesman.
“He was Corner through and through.
“This season Jimmy got to support his son Chris as a Chimney Corner player, something we know meant the world to him.
“Chimney Corner was a huge part of Jimmy's life, and he was an enormous part of Chimney Corner.
“He leaves behind not only a big gap in our club, but a legacy that will be remembered.
“Our hearts go out to Chris, and the wider Getty family.
“All at Chimney Corner FC would like to sincerely thank those who have passed on their condolences and sent messages of support. We hope that Jimmy’s family and loved ones have found some comfort in them.
“Jimmy was a great man and will be an eternal part of our club, we will miss him dearly.
“We are thankful to the Getty family for allowing us to be part of today, and we hold them in our thoughts.”
