RESIDENTS have reacted with fury and politicians have called for action after the Post Office confirmed that it plans to close the last town centre branch inside Castle Mall in November 2023.

A spokesperson said the landlord has ‘served notice’ on the existing premises as they plan to redevelop it.

“There are four alternative Post Offices located close to where Antrim’s Directly Managed branch is presently located. Ballymena Road Post Office is a short walk away and open similar hours between Monday and Friday. Greystone Road Post Office and Muckamore Post Offices are both open long hours, seven days a week and Parkhall Post Office is open six days a week from 8am. All three branches are operated by independent Postmasters and located approximately two miles away.”

It is understood that the owners of Castle Mall offered an alternative premises inside the facility.

A six-week local public consultation began last week on access to Post Office services at nearby alternative branches. Customers can provide feedback until13 September 2023.

Posters and leaflets will be displayed in branch to let customers know about the proposed change to provision in the area and how they can take part in the consultation process.

Feedback can be provided on postofficeviews.co.uk where customers can enter the branch name (Antrim Post Office), postcode (BT41 4AR), or unique branch code (004702) to submit their views via a questionnaire.
