ANTRIM councillors last week got a tour of the new workspace in the former Wellworths building on Antrim’s High Street and a chat with Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Area Lead Jenny Martin to the site.
They were joined by Jennifer McWilliams of Antrim Enterprise Agency, and were met onsite for a tour by the Council’s Deputy Director of Regeneration Steven Norris, who explained that work on the Workplace Hub is now well underway ahead of an early 2024 launch.
The Antrim Guardian also got a look at the site, a 16,000 sq.ft. facility, which is part-financed by £1.2m funding from the UK Levelling Up Fund, will create a new flexible space to support start-ups, entrepreneurs and other business users.
Lead on the project is Muckamore-based family firm Karl Group.
Visiting the site were DUP men John Smyth and Paul Dunlop, Roisin Lynch from SDLP and Neil Kelly from Alliance.
Mayor Mark Cooper, who was not present at the site visit last Tuesday, congratulated everyone involved in the project for the progress to date.
“This impressive transformation is part of regeneration plans to revitalise Antrim town centre as well as bring people into the heart of the town to enjoy all it has to offer.” he said.
“I’m delighted on the progress made to date and would applaud all those who have been working hard to make it happen. The finished hub will be an asset to Antrim and to our Borough.”
