I WANT JUSTICE FOR MY DAUGHTER

A GRIEVING Antrim mother has told how she feels that her daughter - who passed away last month - was failed, after begging for help with her mental health issues for many years.

Caitlin Robb was laid to rest last week, with her mother warning for years that the young woman would end her life if she was not admitted to a specialist facility. And to make matters worse, last summer, her family allege she was raped, with the case yet to come to court.

With the alleged perpetrator freed on bail to walk the streets, the pressure became too much and Caitlin was found unresponsive in her flat in late April.

Caitlin’s worried mum Siobhan, who had contacted the Antrim Guardian twice over concerns about her daughter’s care, rang the police after receiving two worrying phone calls in the early hours of the morning.

Transferred to the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald from Antrim Area Hospital, Caitlin’s life support was withdrawn, as the swelling on her brain could not be repaired and she passed away, surrounded by her loving family.

But as part of her final legacy, her organs have been successfully donated to at least three recipients so far.

“The consultant got down on his knees,” said Siobhan.

“And thanked us as a family, not as a doctor but as a father, for the difference we would be making to the lives of others.”

Siobhan also wants part of Caitlin’s memory to be improved mental health services for young people.

“I want justice and answers for my daughter and I don’t want anyone else to go through what we have gone through.”

Now Caitlin’s parents, brother and sister are mourning her loss.
