THE ladies of Muckamore WI began their summer activities with a visit to The Somme Museum, Bangor Road, Newtownards for a guided tour.
They took a step back in time to see what life was like for a soldier during the First World War. Weapons and war costumes were on display as well as seeing what sleeping quarters were like.
Down in the rat-infested trenches they got to see how the sick and injured were medically treated.
An experience the ladies will not forget. Afterwards the ladies continued their trip and enjoyed a beautiful meal supplied by the ladies of Ballyblack WI.
Some of the Muckamore WI Ladies M. McGregor, R. Wilson, J McCollam, J. Johnston, D. McNabney and J. Hamilton took part in Antrim Show Home Industry Competitions, entering the Crafts and Baking competitions and the Limerick.
They also enjoyed taking part in the WI Competition where they had to make and display A summer shawl (crocheted or handknit), a decorated glass jar filled with crocheted or knitted flowers, a fat free sponge (whole sponge to be exhibited), 4 scones (any one variety) and a dish of strawberry jam.
Congratulations to M.McGregor who gained 1st for her jam and to J Hamilton who also gained 1st for her scones. Muckamore WI ladies were placed 3rd overall for their crafts, baking and display.
Some ladies also attended the afternoon tea held by Kells and Connor WI in the Community Centre. An exceptional and wonderful crowd of ladies attended this event on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to be met with well laden tables with mouthwatering food on display.
Afterwards the ladies visited the craft stalls around the hall. A credit to the ladies of Kells and Connor WI for such a terrific display.
Secretary Deborah McNabney and member Liz McConnell recently attended a Community Event in Antrim Forum promoting the WI and their activities - ‘Connect with like-minded women in the community’.
An exhibition of Craftwork and Drama was on display to help promote the WI.
Muckamore WI will begin their Winter Programme on Thursday (September 4) at 7.30pm in All Saints’ Parish Church Hall in Antrim. New members will be made most welcome.
