IT was certainly the end of an era at Antrim Area Hospital on Friday, when a much local member of the catering team retired.
Christopher Stewart has Down Syndrome, but he has never allowed that to stop him living a full and productive life.
The 52-year-old started work at the hospital just one year after it opened in 1994.
So that’s an incredible 30 years of service at the very busy department, working three days a week.
There was a special presentation for Christopher on Friday morning.
And Derek Stewart said his brother will certainly miss the place.
“It has been a vital social outlet for him, allowing him to meet new people and develop his personal skills,” he said.
“Christopher has always liked to keep busy having previously worked at The Bridge Training Unit and Shrubs and Tubs garden centre.
“Christopher won’t be putting his feet up as he will be attending the ‘R House’ community hub in Antrim full time and is very much looking forward to participating in the varied activities and excursions that they offer.
“All of Christopher’s family would sincerely like to thank his friends and colleagues at Antrim Area Hospital for treating him with such dignity and respect.
“Your continuous kindness and generosity towards him will not be forgotten.”
