SDLP Councillor Roisin Lynch has warmly welcomed the opening of the new Women’s Aid ABCLN Antrim Shop, following her attendance at the launch event at The Cornerstone.
The shop, located in Grace House, Fountain Street, will operate initially as a pop-up, offering a welcoming space for the community to access information and support, while raising essential funds for Women’s Aid ABCLN’s work with women and children experiencing domestic abuse.
Speaking after the event, Cllr Lynch said: “I was delighted to attend today’s launch and to support this wonderful initiative by Women’s Aid ABCLN.
“The new shop is a fantastic addition to the town not just as a retail space, but as a vital point of connection for women and families who may need support.
“Every pound raised will go directly towards life-changing work across Antrim and beyond, and that is something our whole community can get behind.”
Councillor Lynch also praised the organisation’s staff and volunteers: “Women’s Aid ABCLN delivers critical services with compassion, professionalism and dedication.
“Their team does extraordinary work every day, and this new shop will help strengthen that support even further. I want to commend everyone involved and encourage local people to call in, donate, or volunteer if they can.”
The shop will stock high-quality pre-loved women’s clothing, accessories, books, and gifts, with all proceeds supporting frontline services. Women’s Aid ABCLN is currently seeking volunteers to help in both their Antrim and Larne shops.
“This is a project that brings community, charity and positive social impact together in a meaningful way. I’m proud to support it, and I look forward to seeing it thrive,” added the Antrim rep.
“We are thrilled to be opening this new shop in the heart of Antrim,” said Women’s Aid ABCLN CEO, Gillian Creevy. “It is a wonderful opportunity for the community to support our work with women and children, shop sustainably, purchase some beautiful brand.
“The enthusiasm we have received has been incredible, and we look forward to welcoming everyone through our doors.”
“Every purchase made will contribute directly to sustaining Women’s Aid’s specialist services and support for women and children experiencing domestic abuse here in Antrim.”
Speaking at the launch, Women's Aid Ambassador and former Councillor Noreen McClelland said: “I am delighted to be part of this exciting new shopping experience for women in Antrim.
“Having been involved with the organisation for many years, I know at first hand the incredible work Women’s Aid does in our local community and am looking forward to coming on board as a new retail volunteer.”
Volunteers will be essential to the shop’s sustainability and success,
“If you would like to help out in the shop and volunteer for a few hours each week we would love to hear from you,” added Noreen.
“Volunteering is a deeply rewarding way to give back and help Women’s Aid provide life-changing safety and support for women and children.”
