THIS festive season, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is encouraging residents to shop local, celebrate together, and ‘Embrace Your Town this Christmas’.
Antrim, Ballyclare, Crumlin, Glengormley, and Randalstown, have local shops, cafes, and seasonal treats, with plenty to see and do this Christmas.
A council spokesperson said: “Whether you’re picking up gifts, enjoying a meal, or just soaking up the holiday atmosphere, there’s something for everyone.
“By shopping locally, residents are supporting local jobs, families, and the life of our towns. Every purchase helps to keep our high streets vibrant and full of festive cheer.”
As part of the campaign, 21 local businesses have taken part in the Council’s Visual Merchandising Programme.
They learned how to create eye-catching festive window displays, deliver memorable in-store experiences, and use simple digital marketing tips to boost sales.
Shoppers can spot participating businesses by looking out for the #EmbraceYourTownThisChristmas logo.
Residents are also encouraged to share their local shopping experiences and festive finds on social media using the hashtag #EmbraceYourTown, helping to spread Christmas cheer across the Borough.
The council is also encouraging everyone to shop local this Christmas with free car parking across Market Square, Ballyclare; Whiteabbey Village, Newtownabbey; and Railway Street, Antrim on every Saturday in December 2025.
All other council car parks are already free
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Leah Kirkpatrick, said: “This is a wonderful time to enjoy everything our local communities have to offer.
“From shops and family-run businesses to festive events that bring people together, there’s plenty to see and do this Christmas.
“By choosing to shop locally, we are supporting the traders who work hard all year, helping to keep our town centres welcoming, vibrant, and full of life.
“I encourage everyone to explore our towns, enjoy the festive atmosphere, and make the most of what’s on offer this holiday season.”
“Stay local, embrace your town, and make this Christmas in Antrim and Newtownabbey truly memorable.”
