Pensioner left without carers for over two weeks after staffing crisis

THE Northern Trust has responded to concerns after a number of pensioners in Crumlin were left without domiciliary care over the festive period due to staff shortages.

A number of care packages were suspended at short notice in the run-up to the Christmas and New Year period, leaving some without alternative care provision.

Some families have claimed that they were given less than two hours’ notice that their loved ones’ care packages would be suspended.

It is understood that carers were stood down on the Friday before Christmas, in some cases with notice of just a few hours.

It’s been alleged that one vulnerable elderly person was even asked to give dementia medication to their spouse.

One Crumlin resident told how their elderly parent was left without a care package for over two weeks.
