SINN Féin’s Declan Kearney has commended the PSNI’s constituency wide success in the detection and prosecution of those involved in drug crime during 2025, ‘made possible by the support of the community’.
He was speaking after recent police operations which resulted in the discovery of illicit drugs and the apprehension of suspects.
“Drug crime is a blight on communities right across South Antrim, both rural and urban.
“The criminals who profit from drug dealing have no regard whatsoever for the harm they cause to families or the hurt and devastation which result from their criminality.
“I commend the PSNI’s constituency wide success in the detection and prosecution of those involved in drug dealing during 2025.
“I hope this will have created setbacks for the drugs trade across South Antrim, and in surrounding areas, and will positively contribute to keeping our neighbourhoods safe.
“This level of success is only possible with the support of local people.
“Therefore, I would urge anyone in South Antrim who may have information about the distribution and selling of drugs, to immediately report this to the police.
“All information, no matter how insignificant can support the eradication of drug crime and the removal drug dealers from our midst.
“Information can be reported to the police on 101 or online, and anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
“I would also strongly encourage local constituents to consider establishing Neighbourhood Watch Schemes as an another effective deterrent against crime in their areas and to promote personal and community safety.
“By working together, neighbours can help protect each other against opportunist criminals.
