A LOCAL pensioner has urged others to be vigilant after she collapsed after being hit by a ‘vape’ thrown from a moving car.

The Randalstown woman, who does not wish to be named, was out with a local walking group at the top of Fountain Street in Antrim when the passenger of a red saloon car threw an object at her.

She told the Antrim Guardian: “It was a vape, it hit me on the head and I fainted in shock.

“I collapsed and was taken to hospital with suspected fractured ribs and I have extensive bruising.

“I am still in a lot of pain. It was definitely deliberate, we were walking in single file and wearing high viz jackets.

“It was a red saloon car and the fella had blond, short, wavy hair, he was shouting out the passenger window and he threw the vape right at us.

“The footpath is very narrow there and I was very lucky I did not fall into the traffic. My daughter has been looking after me and cooking for me, she has been very good.

“There were two girls walking in the opposite direction who came over and helped and they saw it all happening.

“We reported it to the police, because I would not want anyone else to suffer what I did. It was a disgusting thing to do.”

Police in Antrim confirmed that they are appealing for witnesses and information after a woman was hit on the head by an object thrown from a moving car.

Sergeant Wilson said: “We received a report at around 8.45pm on Monday, 23rd February that a woman had been injured in the Fountain Street area earlier that evening, at approximately 7.20pm.

“It was reported that someone from a passing car had thrown an object out of the window, which then hit the woman on the head, causing her to faint. She subsequently attended hospital for treatment to her injuries.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, or who might have seen anything which could assist us – including dash-cam, CCTV or other footage – to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1448 of 23/02/26.

“You can also submit a report or information online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org/.”
