Tug of war athletes will go on the pull in Templepatrick for world title

ANTRIM and Newtownabbey is to host World Indoor Tug Of War Championships 2023.

The Northern Ireland Tug of War Association has announced that the event is to be held in the Jim Baker Stadium, Templepatrick, from Wednesday the 8th of March until Saturday the 11th of March 2023.

The venue successfully hosted the British and Irish Championships last year.

The competition will see the very best teams from all over the globe come together and battle it out to be crowned the best in their historic sport.

With a total of 65 teams from Cameroon, Ghana, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, The Netherlands, Nigeria, USA, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and the Basque Country attending, the event promises to be a great battle, showcasing some of the best talents in the world.

Teams will be competing for the gold, silver, and bronze medals in men’s and ladies’ weight categories.

Fermanagh’s ‘Country Club’ will have their eye on the prize throughout the competition, as they compete to retain their world championship title.

Partnering with the McKeever Hotel Group - which runs the Dunadry, Dunsilly and Corrs Corner hotels - and Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council the event will be a large boost to the local economy, bringing in approximately £300k.
