THIS weekend marked 39th anniversary of the tragic deaths of three of Antrim Hockey Club's finest first team players.
Jimmy Orr, Colin Rainey, and Harry Young died in a horrific road traffic accident on Saturday, 27 September 1986.
The young men were lost, having just left the Allen Park Clubhouse following an away fixture earlier that day.
The loss to Antrim Hockey Club was immense, but it was nothing compared to the loss to and impact on their families.
That pain is still felt across the Club today, and indeed by their close circle of friends and the greater Antrim Town.
A Memorial Fund was established in their memory many years ago, and contributions from this fund are still used 39 years on to assist in the coaching and development of Antrim’s promising young players to this day.
It is still possible to contribute to this fund to ensure hockey is still available to everyone, regardless of background or experience.
Antrim Hockey Club has expressed gratitude to the Trustees of the Memorial Fund for such a lasting legacy to Colin, Jimmy, and Harry in the years since the tragic accident.
On behalf of all Club members and friends of Antrim Hockey Club, the committee would like to offer their thoughts and prayers to the Orr, Rainey, and Young families.
AHC would also like to forward best wishes and good luck to all within the Ulster Hockey circle for the 2025/26 season and wish all a safe and healthy season.
