THE President of Randalstown Rugby Club has paid tribute to a ‘Town legend’.

Last Thursday Randalstown RFC lost one of their most respected and loyal members when the news of Jimmy Parkhill’s death was announced.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Jennifer, Clare, Shauna and the wider family circle at this sad time,” said Dr John Curry.

“Jimmy had borne his long illness with great bravery and fortitude and never allowed it to stop him coming to watch games at the club. We will all recall the car pulled upon the pavement with Jimmy enjoying the game and being attended to by the ladies of the club with his favourite refreshments.

“While we mourn his passing let us also celebrate his life and contribution to Randalstown RFC over many years. He served as President and Chairman of the Club for many years and his wisdom and quiet diplomacy were often evident when issues arose on and off the pitch. He was never afraid to get stuck in to many of the jobs around the place.

“Those of us who travelled to away games were always entertained by Jimmy’s stories about past games or his latest fishing or shooting trips. Jimmy Parkhill was a people person and he enjoyed nothing more than the craic in the club with his ‘Thursday Club’ friends, or the visiting team officials who seemed to remember him from his playing days.

“As a club we will remember Jimmy P as a gentleman full of kindness and care for others. Let this be our model when we are representing Randalstown RFC both on and off the pitch.

“Thank you Jimmy for all you have done for the Club. You are and will always be a Town Legend.”
